Seattle needs a true seaplane terminal like Vancouver’s.

Supporting Seaplanes

We love Seattle’s seaplanes like most people, and we support their continued operation and growth in the Seattle area. There will always be room for some seaplane operations on Lake Union, but today Lake Union and Kenmore are simply too busy to make it safe for seaplane landings.

With the intense use of Lake Union by thousands of residents, boaters, kayakers, rowers, and hundreds of shore-side businesses, the constantly increasing number of seaplane flights poses a safety risk that needs to be reviewed by all Lake Union users.

Other cities such as Vancouver, BC have mitigated these risks by providing a dedicated Seaplane Flight Center (https://vhfc.ca/) on a large body of water that - unlike Lake Union - is not integral or essential to the quality of life for the immediately adjacent resident populations.

Send us your ideas and join the conversation about where else seaplanes could operate in the Seattle area. For a list of some of the issues that impact seaplane landing areas go to this FAA advisory document.
