CURRENT CAUSES
Supporting Seaplanes
We are working with Kenmore Air, the City of Seattle, and Port of Seattle, and other organizations to locate a new seaplane flight center. Help us to create a true Pacific Northwest Seaplane Flight Center such as exists in Vancouver BC.
PAST CAUSES
Removing Unhelpful Seaplane Buoys
Kenmore Air just applied for a 5-year permit for their seaplane buoys on Lake Union. Even according to their own pilots, these buoys are not helpful due to the constant change in wind, weather, and crowds, which necessitate the aircraft pilot to select the best landing zone wherever practical. It is for this reason Kenmore does not want to be restricted to landing adjacent to the buoys. Help us convince DNR to not issue the city a 5-year permit for the buoys.
Save Lake Union from a Seaplane Runway
In 2019, Kenmore Air quietly asked the City of Seattle for a 1.2 million sqft “…demarcated landing zone in Lake Union for the exclusive use of seaplanes”. We successfully prevented Kenmore Air from building such a runway that would have divided Lake Union in two.
The 1989 Noise Abatement Lake Union Seaplane Agreement
In 1989, SEC successfully negotiated with Kenmore Air to stop flights before 8am. Flights used to take off and land as early as 6am waking up many of those who lived on and around Lake Union.
